We are proud to announce that we are holding a special Holiday Clinic over the Christmas break that combines are popular holiday clinic program with a full day visit to the Brisbane International.

This is a fantastic opportunity for our players, particularly this year as Roger Federer and a host of other top ranked players will be entering the event.  Click this link to download an enrolment form. Alternatively you can drop into our centres to obtain one.  Places are strictly limited and will be taken on a first come first served basis and enrolments close on Friday 13th December and we will be unable to take any enrolments after this date.

Entry numbers are huge for the first annual Tennis Junior Club Championships. We have over 60 entrants in our Orange ball, Green ball and age events all looking to take out the title as the number player of their division at our Centres.

The Shaw Park Club Championships will be held on Sunday 20th January from 9.00am at Shaw Park. Players can enter in the Open, A Grade or B Grade singles and doubles events.

Over the June / July holidays we ran our very first “multi-sport clinic” at the Shaw Park Tennis Centre.  The clinic was in response to parent requests for a holiday clinic that incorporated other sports (incl tennis) that will give their child an introduction to that sport.  Over three days we introduced skills for Cricket, Basketball, Soccer and Rugby.  The clinic was run by Scott Beckingsale who is a qualified sports trainer and one of our tennis coaches, over 25 children attended the clinic and the feedback was overwhelmingly positive.

Thanks to the kids who participated and we look forward to seeing you again next holidays.

Shaw Park is proving to be a popular place to play tennis. Shaw Park has nominated over 80 teams in the Tennis Brisbane Super League competition, which is the largest nomination of teams from any tennis centre in the history of the competition.

The Super League competition is run week nights and also Saturday afternoons and sees players of all ages, standards and gender play against other players of similar standard. Their are two seasons per year Feb-Jun and Jul-Nov with semi’s and finals at the end of each season. Super League is a great way to meet other players from neighbouring tennis centres and test your skills.

Shaw Park Tennis Centre manager and Head Coach, Gareth Keating showed he can still mix it with the best by winning the recent Shaw Park AMT doubles together with Cieran Moore. After a tough match in the semi-finals, Gareth and Cieran had a relatively easy win over the number six seeds Stephen Gort and Louis Ingram 6/1 6/2.

Gareth said after the match “it is great to still be competitive at my stage in life. I really enjoyed playing in the tournament, but I am sure my body will regret it tomorrow. Thanks also to Cieran, he was great to play with. I was also nice to see the other staff from Tennis Gear down here to watch the final. I really appreciate their support and hope to play again next year”.

Tennis Gear has been selected by the QCLTA to manage their 12 court facility at Morningside. After a long selection process that saw applications from around Australia, Tennis Gear was offered the management rights to the facility under a long term licence arrangement.

Mark Bloomfield the Managing Director of Tennis Gear said “we are delighted to be recognised as a leader in tennis centre management. Our team has worked hard to ensure our centres at Shaw Park and Everton offer the services and programs the local tennis community is looking for and we are confident we can replicate our success at Morningside.”

The Morningside Tennis Centre will undergo a dramatic transformation over the coming months as two new courts are constructed, the lighting upgraded and the proshop fitted out to a similar standard as Shaw Park and Everton. Soon players from the South-side of Brisbane will be able to enjoy the wide range of coaching, social, fixture and retail services offered at Shaw Park and Everton.

Shaw Park Tennis Centre has again been selected by the International Tennis Federation to host a Junior ITF tournament in 2012. The tournament will see the best Under 18 players from around Australia and Oceania compete for valuable world ranking points. Last year Junior Wimbledon winner Ash Barty won the girls event and her win attracted international media attention. We are very proud to host this event again in 2012 and we welcome the players to our centre. The event will run between Monday 9th July to Saturday 14th July.
